‘’Until you’re broken, you don’t know what you’re made of. It gives you the ability to build yourself all over again, but stronger than ever.’’
This quote has never been more apparent than in the past week or so. I mean there’s nothing worse than being broken and when its during a race and only 3 miles towards the end and you throw the towel in its really is rubbish! Some days well a lot of days actually I forget where I came from and where I am today just over a year and a half ago I couldn’t even run a mile. Saturdays race reminded me that actually throwing in the towel was the best thing I could do and there was nothing to be ashamed of.
It has given me the ability to build myself all over again and after a few days off to rest and recuperate as I was mentally and physically knackered! Wednesday I went and joined the gym and then ran home from the gym on a recovery run and loved being out again. Wednesday I went for my most comfortable run ever a nice 9 miles through the countryside. I managed to run up every hill which is something I have been struggling with before. Friday I rested and stretched which led me to running a tempo 48 min 6 miles on the Saturday which is the fastest I have run on the hilly trails for a long time.
Sunday was a recovery night run and a few hill repeats which I loved! With a little over 6 weeks till my next big race at the St Illtyds 50km ultra in Carmarthenshire I feel good that I will be ready for it. I am also looking forward to meeting a few friendly faces from twitter and the red squirrel run team. A lot of positives from a little slip up at the weekend just goes to prove there is light at the end of the tunnel and you can bounce back pretty quick!
Have a great week & happy running and adventures!
